The first video of the auteur cinematic trilogy, created for a competition in 2013, aims to explore Basilicata through the intimate and nostalgic filter of memories.
Time emerges as a key element of the work, challenging its absolute rigidity through the free flow of memory and the use of flashback as the main narrative device. The visual repetition of daily gestures, beloved faces, and corners of the Lucanian landscape captured across different stages of existence transforms the region from a simple background setting into a true co-protagonist of the story.
The narrative unfolds through the memories of an elderly female photographer. In her final days of life, the woman mentally retraces the long, quiet, and solitary journey undertaken in her youth across the mountain landscapes, villages, and badlands of Basilicata. Memories become physical, imprinted as photographic prints on the bare walls of her room—shots captured over a lifetime with an old analog camera.
"Basilicata, remember me" represents the spiritual testament and final wish of someone who deeply loved this forgotten land and spent her life trying to tell its story and preserve it. It is an invitation to leave an indelible mark, not only by fixing light on photographic emulsions, but by transmitting that emotional intensity that keeps memories alive over time.
The short film is part of the trilogy dedicated to the Lucanian territory, which also includes the video Basilicata, a dreamland.
