In a picturesque village perched on the cliff and resting by the sea (inspired by the enchanting scenery of Maratea, the only Tyrrhenian gem of Basilicata), the sea breeze seems to carry the centuries-old secrets of an apparently placid community. The ancient stone-paved streets whisper tales of bygone days, but behind this idyllic and silent facade hides a dark and deep mystery.
A shadow from a distant past slowly creeps through the narrow alleys of the village. Something terrible is about to unfold: sudden and disturbing disappearances of inhabitants throw the community into panic, while strange voices and visions seem to emerge from the depths of the sea waters. A woman finds a parchment containing an ancient, forgotten prophecy: an evil entity asleep in the seabed for centuries now demands its ruthless revenge.
"From the Depths of the Sea" is the trailer for an atmospheric thriller-horror short film entirely conceived and set in the splendid and rugged coastal scenery of Basilicata. I participated in this independent production by personally handling the Director of Photography (DoP) duties, striving to highlight the contrasts of light and shadow between the white stone of the village and the darkness of the alleys and waters.
The work explores the mysterious atmospheres typical of coastal folklore, standing alongside my visual research dedicated to Lucanian legends collected in the main project Basilicata Mistero.
