An intimate solo acoustic guitar improvisation, recorded and produced in studio.
The acoustic guitar is an extraordinarily intimate and organic instrument. Its natural resonance, the touch of fingers sliding across steel strings, and the deep warmth of the wood offer a direct and immediate channel of artistic expression.
"Guitar Sketch" is a 71-second solo acoustic guitar instrumental improvisation, born spontaneously in the studio as a brief fragment of thought translated into music.

To capture the acoustic soul of the piece and preserve the delicacy of the fingerstyle touch, I set up the mic placement using a matched pair of small-diaphragm condenser microphones in an XY configuration. This technique allowed for a defined and natural stereo image, capturing not only the sound projection of the soundhole but also the spatiality and physical nuances of the performance, such as the subtle sound of fingertips sliding along the strings.

The post-production work, completed in Adobe Audition, focused on enhancing the natural dynamics of the guitar:
The piece builds upon a cyclical arpeggio that gradually increases in intensity and energy around the one-minute mark, before fading out into a soft, natural silence.

Guitar Sketch fits into my path of exploring the expressive possibilities of sound and ambient recordings. It serves as an ideal counterpart to the cyberpunk atmospheres of Blackrain, the melodic layers of Incubi di un re melodico, and the reflection on silence and analog noise developed in Non silenzio.
